Animale Parfums was founded in 1987 by Suzanne de Lyon, and its debut fragrance, Animale, captured late-1980s style with a bottle marked with a lightning-bolt design and a box design in shades of hot pink, cobalt blue, and turquoise. The fragrance’s tagline was, “Unleash it!” Animale was followed by Animale for Men a few years later, and by several more fragrances throughout the 1980s and 1990s, including Instinct Animale for women and an Animale Animale for men and women. After de Lyon filed for bankruptcy in 1991, Animale Parfums was acquired by the Parlux Group. It later passed into the ownership of the Animale Group in 2004.
