Once given the moniker, "the Architect of Fashion", Gianfranco Ferre is known for designs strongly influenced by his architectural background. His clothing is defined a rigidity of structure, with special attention to clean lines. The Gianfranco Ferre perfume is sophisticated and elegant both in packaging and fragrance. The line was launched in 1984 with the definitive Gianfranco Ferre, which has both a men's and women's version. Oriental floral defines the women's scent; and woody chypre, the men's. Over the years, the line has already produced several perfumes, all still convey the elevated elegance that Gianfranco Ferre is famous for. As of 2020, the Gianfranco Ferre brand includes 24+ fragrances designed in collaboration with nearly one dozen talented perfumers. ITF Cosmetics holds the fragrance license, and the fragrances are still produced under the Ferre brand. In 2007, Gianfranco Ferre passed away at just 62 years of age.
